does anyone know what the trimpot in the PS-2 does? just got one and the delays are really noisy.. equal part repeat/white noise..

this site mentions "The earliest PS-2s suffered from high frequency noise. This was alleviated from serial number 845800 but earlier units can be modified to the later specification by changing 3 capacitors."
who does this mod? or where can i find details of it? |

Hi gambit
There are actually 2 pots VR-4 & VR-5 They are the Clock frequency adjustment.
You will need a Frequency counter, or a "really accurate" tuner to set these up properly. Don't fiddle with them unless you know what you are doing.
I posted instructions to set-reset these pots previously, sometime mid to late last year.

thanks Dr Bob. will have a look for it.. but the pots relate to the pitch only? do they have any effect on the delay and white noise that comes with each repeat?

For the earlier PS2s, you'll need to add a .0047uf cap in parallel to both C3 and C21 on the analog board, the top one, and swap out C6 on the lower board from a 47uf/6.3V to a 470uf/10V cap. Both trimpots are connected to the Fine/Manual pot and are for the pitch aspect only. Altho I've heard you can do the Hi-Cut mod on these, but its such a dark delay, don't know if it'd be worth it. good luck |

| so the trimpot is to fine tune the pitch? would it be worth me messing with it because the octave up mode is ever so slightly flat and it's kind of annoying. i cover it up by winding up the feedback haha. |

Hi gambit, nightraven & Guys
Here is the link to the official factory setup for the trimpots in the PS-2 http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8342
Here is another link showing pictures of the HF cap mods. http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8231
BTW, I used the search method I posted earlier for Altavista.com http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9017 I located these older posts in less than 1.5 mins.
=== PS-2 trimpot settings extracted from above link ===
The official factory setup procedure for VR-4 & VR-5 (The service guys said I'll have to kill you after you read this) - Just Joking...
Use a good quality regulated 9VDC power supply. (NOT a Battery).
1/ Connect a good quality tuner like the (TU-12, TU-100) it's better to use a frequency counter, connect either to the TUNER OUT jack. You will also need a lead plugged into the input socket to turn it on
2/ Turn MODE to [4].
3/ Turn FINE/MANUAL fully clockwise and adjust VR5 for C# (277.18Hz).
4/ Turn FINE/MANUAL fully counterclockwise & adjust VR4 for B (61.735Hz).
5/ Non-Official step. If none of this makes any sense don't attempt to adjust the trim pots. You will not be able to just guess their settings.
Good Luck - enjoy. If it breaks - we know nothing - you didn't read this here... Regards Dr. Bob
PS - It's always a good idea to place a mark, using a fine-tip marker pen, on the trim pots before you attempt to adjust them. That way, at least you'll have some idea as to where they were originally set. (whether they were set correctly or not).
=== End Extract ===
