hi,
i followed the online instructions for converting a ts10 overdrive into a ts808. In doing so i turned an awful dull sounding overdrive into a very cool dynamic overdrive. Also I ( and many others apparently ) made the pedal 'pop' when activating the pedal. Analogman says on his site that he solved the issue but didnt publish..
i just want to post that if you run a 1 megaohm resistor from the tip of the input jack to the ground of the pedal, it completely fixes this annoying side effect.

Hi svengali
Congrats. Sounds like you had a bit of fun doing the conversion-Mod.
The 1Meg resistor you added, bleeds off the charge on the input capacitor, effectively eliminating the POP you describe. It's a very common problem, across many pedals.
Which OP-amp was in in your TS-10? as I belive there are a few different types that Ibanez used.
And for the rest of the members here, will you please post the link to the mod page?

the link for the conversion mod is here
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2007/Jan/The_Ultimate_Tube_Screamer_Mod_Guide.aspx
i should add that this is not the website i followed the instructions from. The link for that r g keen page seems to be not available anymore, but the above link has the same instructions.
my pedal is a taiwanese one, but it has the old japanese jrc488d op amp and sounds really, really good. The chip in the pedal is the original one. The serial number of the unit is 9x92098 the pedal now sounds like a ts9 but with more clarity, more treble, less haze...less nasal too. nice and punchy, i actually am really enjoying it ( i did this mod about four or five years ago , and only just found out about the 1 meg resistor). there is a hole in the board already, and to put this 1 meg resistor in I drilled another. My brother gave me this pedal about...ten years ago? but sounded so bad it stayed in the shame box for five years or so. |

| SRV used a TS-10 in the late 80's, and he just plugged in and played. I believe that it was unmoddified and he sounded like SRV! So go figure! |

Sorry for not getting this. The TS10 uses FET switching. Unless you TB-ed the pedal as well I do not understand how a 1 meg resistor should eliminate a pop (which is related to mechanical switching) that should not be there in the first place? The TS808 conversion shouldn't introduce switch popping. |
